LATE BREAKING NEWS
Good Day All, I am swinging you a quick pre-newsletter update and (frankly) plea. Over the past couple of months three of our Committee Members have unfortunately found it necessary to resign due to career changes and opportunities.
We are sad to lose Beverley Bloxham our 2008/2009 Treasurer, who of course you all know has been a major part of the heart and soul of Arts Council Toowoomba Inc for many years and as always with her capacity to help is continuing skeleton duties until a new Treasurer can be found.
Alex Isaacson our 2008/2009 Secretary has just become the Crow’s Nest Regional Gallery Curator a position that is a wonderful opportunity for her to further her career, and though she is leaving us, Crow’s Nest Arts Council will I’m sure welcome her into their vibrant organisation.
Tina Cherry was our newsletter editor and found she could not commute easily from Crows Nest. We are happy that she has still remained a member.
Therefore my friends, we need your help.
Avant Garden is well underway and chugging nicely, but there is no-one within our current committee who could take on these roles as well as what they are currently committed to. So I am asking if there are a few members out there who are willing to donate their time to fill these shoes. I am encouraging position sharing as we all know that time is precious, so maybe if you think you could collect the mail but not attend meetings that would still help us out, or if you have your 1st & 3rd Tuesday evenings available and could possibly take minutes and forward out agendas this would help us out. If you have an affinity for figures with a $ in front but don’t think you could manage it alone, team up with a friend because having someone to share with makes any job easier I think!
Do not feel like you would plunge in at the deep end with no life raft. With Beverley and the current Committee this is not an option, help and advice are abundant and perfection is not a requirement. With the AGM in November, you have the chance to get a 4-5month taste tester of committee life and help Arts Council Toowoomba Inc continue to make a contribution to the arts and culture in Toowoomba!
Therefore if you are interested please swing me a reply back asap or come along to our next Committee Meeting (Tuesday 7 July, 5:30pm, Job Stone Room (upstairs City Hall, Ruthven Street)). Even if you aren’t - remember, as a member you are welcome to come along to our meetings and listen in on what takes place!
I hope as members (many of you long term) of Arts Council Toowoomba Inc, you know the need for this kind of organisation and are passionate enough to step up and join the other seven passionate people on the Committee!

Artists in Gardens
This program will be a new feature of Avant Garden in 2009 with artists working in parks and gardens, interacting with the visitors to the gardens. Works on paper, board and canvas will be produced on site, giving the public the opportunity to witness artists in action. As this project is held in spring, a time of renewal and regeneration, artists are asked to consider spring and carnival as an integral part of the project.
To participate in Artists in Gardens 2009 :An expression of interest must be submitted to ACT by 24 July which will also include 3-6 images of your work ( jpg or photos or slides) , an artist statement and CV, an ACT membership application and fee $15.
